I'm Moving!

Hi! So this is my first blog post... I decided to start this blog to chronicle my adventures in NORTH DAKOTA! Yes, that's right, my awesome fiancĂ© took a great job as a tenure track music professor at Valley City State University in Valley City, North Dakota. I am currently looking for any and all music teaching jobs in Valley City, Fargo (no, I have not seen the movie and will not until I've been there for one year), Jamestown, any other district within an hour and Moorhead, MI areas.

Here's a little bit about me:

I am from the metro Atlanta area. I play the flute and have wanted to teach band since I was in the 8th grade. I just graduated from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor of music with an emphasis in music education and a performer's certificate in flute! I got engaged on December 7, 2012 and will get married to Andrew Allen, saxophone extrodinare on December 28, 2013.

I love playing flute, making music, and teaching music. I also enjoy exercising, crafting, and thrifting! Finding good deals on clothes gives me such joy. I can't wait to find new consignment stores in Fargo!

Here's my current game plan:
Andrew is finishing up classes this summer in Columbia so this summer while I'm in limbo between school and job my number one priority is to become employed and my number two priority is to get all of this wedding planning nonsense under control so that when I (hopefully) am starting my job in ND I won't have to worry about it! I'll be back and forth between ATL and Columbia this summer while I accomplish my two main priorities. We'll probably start the move on August 9 but more details will come!

I've never tried blogging before and I am super excited about it! I hope it goes well!

  1. Wow!
First, you don't know me from Adam's housecat. That's ok. I found your blog posted on a friend's wall. I'm from The South (always capitalize it!), but I like traveling. I think you'll love North Dakota. The folks are nice.
Second, CONGRATS! Both for getting married soon, and for your fiance's getting a tenure track position ANYWHERE! Those are as rare as hens' teeth (I have a Ph.D. in biology and am currently in medical school--it was easier to get in to medical school than it was to get an academic position...)
Seeing as I don't know you from Adam's house cat either, I'll leave it at that.
    Good luck and God Bless!

  2. Hi Elise,
I look forward to following your blog and adventures. My only advice is do not see the movie Fargo, EVER. It was visually disturbing, and I'm sure it discredits the good people of ND.
All the best to you and Andrew. Mrs. Hattori
